APPLICATIONS : AIRcable for Nextel™
The AIRcable for Nextel™ adds Bluetooth functionality to many Nextel phones without the need of changing the phone's firmware. This allows connections to laptops, PDA, Bluetooth cameras, Bluetooth scanners and control serial devices (using other AIRcable products).
You will need to set the AIRcable's mode manually—via the AIRcable's command line interface — for some of the applications below. For more information on manually configuring your AIRcable for Nextel refer to the manual (click here for PDF ).
Download our simple terminal emulator here, in order for the phone to use the AIRcable's command line interface.
Sample Applications
Dial-up Connection Using Your Cell Phone
Set-up a dial-up connection for a Palm, Pocket PC or Laptop. The AIRcable for Nextel™ comes preconfigured to allow incoming connections.
- Use the 5 digit number in the name as a PIN.
Bluetooth® GPS
With the AIRcable for Nextel™ your iDEN cell phone can be used as a Bluetooth® GPS.
- Configure the AIRcable in Service-Slave mode ("+aA3+c")
- Set the baud rate to 4800 ("+aT020+c")
- Switch on NMEA output and use your favorite navigation application on the Palm or Pocket PC with Bluetooth.
For information on navigation software for the Palm go to link to www.mapopolis.com.
FLIC Scanner
Use the FLIC scanner from Mircovision with your computer, laptop, PDA or Cell Phone by pairing your AIRcable module with the scanner.
- Enable the SNIFF mode to the full extend possible (0x540).
- Type "+aF540+c" to enable this sniff parameters
- Then make sure the PIN code is set to "0000" by typing "+aP0000+c".
- Switch the AIRcable connection mode to mode 4 (service master) "+aA4+c". This mode allows the AIRcable to find any Flic in range and make a connection.
- Power up and use the FLIC scanner.
- Press the button on the Flic to switch it on. Watch the LED on the AIRcable to show status of the connection.
- Once you have the connection (LED on) scan something and see the strings on the screen. If using a cell phone, unfortunately you can't delete the scan. Your Java application has to do that. Use the barcode on the Flic doc to erase the Flic memory.
- For a credit card scanner applications run the AIRcable in cable master mode for security reasons.
- First do a reset ("+aZ+c")
- Then set the PIN code (+aP1234+c")
- Set it to the cable master mode ("+aA2+c").
- Start pairing with your credit card scanner. You have 20 seconds to complete it. After that the AIRcable will automatically connect to your scanner, and to nobody else.
- All configurations are persistent, the AIRcable remembers. If using with a cell phone, you have to switch back to "mode 3" to allow incoming dial up connections again.
